TV JUNKIE

The Trainee: review

Hello, hello!!

What happens when OffGun takes on a workplace BL? Let’s dive into the good and the bad of “The Trainee”— a 2024 Thai series with Off and Gun ( OffGun ) in the leading roles.

With OffGun my favorite TV couple, I had to watch this series even if I had the feeling that I would not like it ( not a lot, at least ). The story follows Ryan ( Gun ), a passionate student who gets an internship as an assistant director. There, he meets Jade, a terminated assistant director who wants everything to roll out perfectly.

Along with Ryan, the series also follows the other four interns, seeing how they try to fit in a company with big clients, deadlines, and strict mentors. We see their relationships with each other and their colleagues and how they grow each day to be better versions of themselves.

My thoughts:

Well, have already watched “Not Me” as my first OffGun series I will always be strict with their projects as a couple. “The Trainee” was a cute series, but I would prefer to see Off and Gun in a new series where their acting talent would be visible. In this series, we had zero plot twists, non-big decisions to make, etc. Even the second couple of the series ( Tae and Bamee ) had a better love story than them.

I don’t know… I’m mostly sure that if it wasn’t OffGun in the leading roles, I would have dropped this series after the second episode. They tried to show us how the people behind the cameras work but it turned out to be a little bit boring.

The cast did a good job though and it was nice to see Sea ( from “Last Twilight” & “Vice Versa” ) in a completely different role.

Other than that, though, the series hasn’t anything else to offer. If you want something cute to pass the time, this is a good choice but still, I think you’ll get bored at some point…

Let’s all hope that their next project together will be a perfect one, as it is “Not Me” and all the others that they play with other co-stars. For me it’s a 6/10.

Let me know in the comments what you think and don’t forget to subscribe to not lose any update from us.

Until next time…

  1. Off and Gun are both very talented actors. It’s a bit disappointing watching them take part in series with basic plot and so simple roles.
