Hello there little faces. When it was officially announced that the “Vampire Academy” book series would be brought to the small screen, fans were quick to jump to conclusions about how wrong this new venture would go. After the failed box office adaptation of the first book into a film in 2014, everyone’s hopes for the proper adaptation of the books into a television adaptation were extinguished. The last spark came to extinguish the announcement of the cast of the series as well as the changes in the background of the characters.

The basic story remained the same. Lissa, a royal descendant of the Moroi vampires loses her family in a tragic car accident and must take on the duties her brother was destined for. Rose, her best friend who is half-vampire and half-mortal belongs to the Dhampir race, who are the guardians of the Moroi. The two will have to face everyone who wants to prevent Rose from becoming Lissa’s guardian in order to succeed in making her lose the throne.
In this fight for survival, they will have many enemies, to whom they could have trusted with their lives, but also allies in people they would never expect to help them. With the help of Dimitri and Christian, they will try to survive a political war that they never wanted to get involved in.

My thoughts:
The series had a lot of changes compared to the books! Completely changed characters and turned good ones into bad ones and vice versa. It introduced us to new characters that didn’t exist in the books, in the first season some of them appeared that we should see them much later (if the series takes more seasons). In general, we could say that the creators took the skeleton of the book series’ world and on top of it wrote a fanfic based on a parallel universe keeping as many pieces as they thought would make the fans happy.
I personally tried to separate the series from the books and the times I was able to do so I enjoyed it quite a bit. It’s pretty well written, with relatively good effects and a plot you can follow. If!, can you tell them apart or you haven’t read the books. The cast really did a great job with the material they were given and I dare say I would like to see the series continue.
Even if I’m a little bit disappointed when I remember what I should be watching, in relation to books.
