The summer I turned pretty: season 1 & 2 review

Belly and her brother Steven were always spending their summer vacation at her mom’s best friend’s beach house. Susannah had also two sons as well, Conrad and Jeremiah around the same age as Belly and Steven.

Belly had a huge crush on Conrad since forever but he always thought of her as a little sister. When they came back to their friends’ house for their summer vacation Belly had changed a lot! She wasn’t the annoying Steven’s little sister anymore but a beautiful young lady.

The main story, as you may already think is about Belly and the two brothers that start having feelings for her. I will not gonna lie, I hate love triangles and if I knew it soon I probably wouldn’t start the series at all. But I didn’t and now I’m kinda hooked.

In the whole first season, we have to deal with Belly’s feelings about Conrad and how he tries to stay away from her. Meanwhile, she meets Cameron and they start dating while Jeremiah figures out that he has a crush on her. Steven also starts dating Shayla, a girl from the area, but he feels weird around her because she is extremely rich. Taylor, Belly’s best friend comes for a visit and she ended up kissing Steven ( the dramaaa ). At the same time, we see Susannah fight cancer and try to keep it a secret from the kids.

In the second season, we deal with the aftermath of Susannah’s death. Everyone is sad but they try to keep it to themselves. Belly after the whole drama between her kissing Jeremiah but ending up dating Conrad ( yeah, I know ), is all alone. Conrad and she broke up, Susannah died, Jeremiah doesn’t talk to her anymore, she almost fail on her grades and they kick her out of the volleyball team. When she finally tries to call Jeremiah he picks up and asks her if she knew where his brother was.

After a trip to Brown, together figure out that Conrad has returned to the beach house. They go there to find out what’s going on and Conrad informs them that their aunt is ready to sell the house. Now, they have to convince Aunt Julia to not sell their beloved house while old love flames get sparked again.

As already mentioned I don’t like love triangles and especially when it’s with brothers / sisters. Other than that, the series is pretty good. I haven’t read the books so I’m able to know if the adaption was close to what the author has creat but as a viewer, I liked what I watched.

I’m definitely a Team Jeremiah just because I like his character more. I really don’t care with who Belly will end up at the end, as long as my boy doesn’t hurt again. Conrad is an awesome character, don’t get me wrong. He is kind and l truly believe that he loves Belly, but he is too afraid to let others see the real Conrad and until he manages to le this behavior behind him he will always end up hurting himself and others.

I totally liked that Steven and Taylor end up together and I hope that they will keep having this great and ( until now ) healthy relationship. Talking with your partner about your fears and the things that make you uncomfortable is the key to a successful relationship and those two have exactly this. The second season end up with Belly and Jeremiah together and we have nothing else to do but wait until the next season in order to see what will happen with all of them ( or read the books, I don’t know… ).
