TV JUNKIE

King the Land: season 1 review

King the Land is a rom-com that is worth watching it. It’s production in 2023 and we see Lee Junho as Gu Won and Yoona as Cheon SaRang in the leading roles.

SaRang is one of the top employees at King’s Hotel and she has the title of the most talented among her coworkers. Always smiling and sweet to every guest she manages to climb up to her career by hard work and passion for what she’s doing. On the other side, Won is the son of the CEO and owner of the same hotel. When he returns from the States, he starts working as Head Manager and he has two goals. One, to find out what really happened to his mother and the two, to forbid the fake smiles of his employees.

When these two meet, immediately hate each other but for the sake of the Hotel, they have to work together and pretend that they value each other as people and co-workers. Spending more time together though, it leads them to start developing feelings for each other ( what a plot twist! #not ).

The series is exactly what you think it is. A full of cliches and sometimes a little bit of cringe series full of romance and the main villain, in this case, Won’s sister, trying to keep the family business only for herself. I mean, we have seen these tropes a million times and we will continue seeing them ’cause well, we are liking them way too much even if we are trying to convince ourselves otherwise.

Although, the series had something different that made me really like it and find it kinda different. We had almost zero drama between the main couple! The way that the writers managed to keep them in line was pretty awesome. The potential third person in their relationship tried to make her move but was shut down by Won immediately and SaRang actually gave him the time to explain the situation to her. The all-time classic, the father who tries to separate them, made his best only to test how strong their love is. And more little things that in another series would probably make cost us many minutes ( or episodes ) of unnecessary drama that we avoid just because they talk to each other.

The ending was obviously predictable, they ended up marrying each other and SaRang quit her job in order to start her own small hotel.! ( Spoiler alert: She’s fully booked for the next 6 months, lol )

Now, the rumor has it that we will get a second season but I’m not sure that it’s true or if I want that. I mean, all the characters had their closure… Won’s sister let her feelings for her son to take place and probably her soul return to her body and became a better person, Won found his mother and she and his dad maybe will have a second chance at their love ( tea dates are the best way to win someone’s heart after all ). SaRang’s best friends are finally both happy with their careers and their personal lives and Mr. No got the promotion that he always wanted. What do we need to see more? So, I just hope that if indeed go with another season will not ruin the show.

Anyways, I give a 7.5/10 to the series and I totally recommend it if you like rom-coms.
