Hello – hello my adorable little faces. Today, I decided to write an article about one of my ultimate favourite trilogy of movies ( I’ll do posts about the other two as well soon ) The Mummy. I have watched those movies so many times that I can’t even count them but I watched the first one again last night so to be sure that I will not forget to mention anything!
The story.
Everything started many years ago the time when Thebes ruled but the Pharaoh Seti I. When he figured out that his high priest Imhotep ( Arnold Vosloo ) and his mistress Anck Su Namun ( Patricia Velasquez ) had an affair he tried to arrest them but the two of them killed him. His soldiers arrested Imhotep but Anck Su Namun killed herself. They condemned Imhotep with the worst punishment, they mummified him live, and they buried him in Hamunaptra “the city of the dead”.
Years later, when the librarian and wannabe archaeologist Evelyn Carnahan ( Rachel Weisz ) with her brother Jonathan ( John Hannah ) accidentally find a map that leads to Hamunaptra decide to go and find the lost ancient city. To do so, they need the help of Rick O’ Connell ( Brendan Fraser ) and he has no choice to help them if he wants to live.
Something that they don’t know is that they are not the only ones that they try to find Hamunaptra. When the two groups find the location though everything goes to Hell. They accidentally bring back to life Imhotep and he wants only one thing. To be with his one true love once more ( truth be told if he wasn’t an absolute douchebag it’d be really romantic move – for a mummy – ).
My thoughts and some tiny spoilers.
I totally adore this movie. Is clever and adventurous and will make you laugh way too much. Jonathan is my absolute favourite. He’s the “clown” on the movie and he does everything for money. The only person that he loves more than money though is, probably, Evy… yeah… not even himself. I was so in love with Ardeth Bay ( Oded Fehr ) when I was a child and now that I am a grown-up woman I high five my young self ’cause that kid had good taste in men.
Another character that I couldn’t stand when I was little but now I totally adore is Beni ( Kevin J. O’ Connor ). He is the worst! He could sell his own soul to Devil ( he kinda did that ) if he could offer him gold and gems but he is one of the funniest on the movie.
While I googled the movie I found out that the budget was $80 million dollars and they gain almost $44 million only the opening weekend in the USA with the worldwide gross to be on ( give or take ) $416 million. Not bad, not bad at all…
Ok, don’t shoot me but something that I noticed only this time that I watched it is that Rick and Jonathan reminded me of Dominic Sherwood ( who plays Jace ) and Alberto Rosende ( who plays Simon ) from Shadowhunters. I have no idea why and how but I was laughing like an idiot for at least fifteen minutes.
Don’t forget to tell me what you think about the post in the comments below. Until next time…
xx Marilita.
