The Matchmaker’s Playbook ( 2018 )

Truth be told, I have watched this movie a couple of times before but I have absolutely no idea why I have never written a review.

Ian, after being hit by a car couldn’t play football anymore and lost his college scholarship. In order to make some money and be able to pay for his school, he and his best friend Lex, start a business that takes place all around the campus.

His job is something simple for him. He helps girls make the guys that they want jealous and want to be with them. Ian is an expert in that field and the money comes easy and with no problems. He never falls for a client and the clients even if they find him attractive never want anything other than “their goal”.

When he meets Gabi’s ( his other friend ) new roommate though, everything changes. Blake is beautiful but she keeps dressing in oversized old clothes. She wants to make her forever crush, David, notice her and Ian is her only hope.

SPOILERS!!

Obviously, Ian will fall – first – for Blake and he’ll try to sabotage the whole plan. Blake, on the other hand, will find herself falling in love with Ian as well. When Ian tries to convince everyone that nothing is going on with the two of them though things will get a little bit ugly.

Of course, the movie has a happy ending and the two end up together.

My opinion:

The movie is just a rom-com that you’ll watch when you have nothing else to put on. It’s nothing special and the production is very cheap. Passionflix is known for this kind of production after all. I personally found the fact that he talks to the camera unnecessary and a little bit creepy, but maybe it’s just me.

For a low budget, they did a decent job but they could make some other things somewhat differently. But, as I said before… if you have nothing else to watch it’s a nice choice.

It’s a 6.5/10 from me.

Until next time…

xx Marilita.
