The series is a South Korean production of 2021 with Park Eun ‑ bin and Rowoon in the lead roles.
The story takes place in Joseon Dynasty during which the birth of twin descendants in the royal family was considered a great misfortune. When the princess gives birth to twins, a boy and a girl, the king orders the murder of the girl to prevent the people from learning of their great misfortune.
The princess manages to flee her daughter out of the palace pretending to be dead. But fate has other plans for little Dam-I. Years later she returns to the Royal Court as a maid and when the young prince Yi Hwi sees their resemblance he finds the perfect cover to be able to leave the palace changing position with the young girl.
After a tragic accident in which Hwi loses his life, Dam-I is forced to take his place and grow up as a boy. Things get even more complicated when her childhood love, Ji-Un, returns to the Yard.
At the same time, she has to face the intrigues of those who want to usurp the throne and put Dam-I in the crosshairs.
My thoughts:
Careful written script and direction with the cast giving their best acting. Park Eun-bin and Choi Myung-Bin, who play Dam-I and Hwi, clearly steal the show. Great costumes and outdoor shoots come to complete one of the best – perhaps – Korean productions of 2021.
