Hello – hello,
We’re officially one episode away from the big season one finale! But before we watch that, let’s see what happened in the absolutely heartbreaking episode 7.!
After the shocking ending of the previous episode, in which Hannah ( and we ) finds out that Garrett will play against her rapist in the next game, we see some flashbacks from her High School days. We see that she was a normal teenage girl, a member of the school’s orchestra, she was writing music, she was enjoying life… until Aaron Delaney decided that he wanted her and he didn’t care when she said no. The series follows the book and we don’t get a flashback of the assault, but we see glimpses of Hannah afterwards.
The game starts, Hannah isn’t there and Garrett is having a hard time keeping it together after he saw his dad with Cindy. In the book, right after Thanksgiving Cindy broke up with Phil, but in the series, she continued their relationship. I think that we’ll see more of them in the next season.
Hannah talks with her teacher and informs him that she can’t write the song for the showcase. She’s too afraid to let people see her truth. He gets it, but he reminds her that we should care more for the people who smile because of us. ( And she has that, she has Garrett. )
Delaney hurts Birdie throughout the game and Logan argues with Garrett because of the way he plays. Hannah goes to find her boyfriend and they talk. She helps Garrett calm down and he notices that something is off. She insists, though, that she’s fine.
After Beau asked Allie to help his sister, Joanna, with an audition tape, the two girls spent time together and Jo is trying to convince her to do a one-night stand. Allie flirts with someone but she doesn’t go further than that. ( Allie my dear, go back to Dean. )
Two minutes before the game ends, Delaney calls Hannah “lying slut” in front of Garrett and he immediately knows that he was the one who assaulted his girl. Garrett attacks him and beats the hell out of him. ( Now, I am against violence, but this piece of shit deserved it. )
The coach suspends Garrett for four games and he has to talk to the school board as well ( or something like that. ). While in the book, Hannah gives him permission to talk about her past in order to not be suspended, here it didn’t happen. Phil talks to him, saying that he is proud of him, and he makes things worse. Phil tells his son that he is already like him and that is Garrett’s biggest fear.
Hannah waits for him and they argue because she doesn’t want her past to destroy his future, as it destroyed her parents. She says to him that it scares her that he’s willing to lose everything for her and Garrett thinks she’s scared of him. He’s afraid that one day she’ll be afraid of him and break up with her. Now, this didn’t happen that way in the book. Phil threatened Hannah that he would cut off Garrett and with no money, he would not be able to be a professional hockey player. She lies to him that she’s afraid of him and she breaks up with him. Although Garrett knows that something isn’t right and doesn’t believe her.
She calls her mom crying about everything and they have a great conversation ( I cried people, both times I watched the series. ) Hearing her mom saying that the assault wasn’t Hannah’s fault, broke my heart. She needed that so much.
Allie spends time with Jo and Beau and she ignores Dean, who, my poor boy, wants to meet her. Logan asks Garrett what is going on but he keeps not telling him the truth.
Another beautiful writen episode came to an end. I don’t believe that tomorrow will be our last episode.
It’s a 8.7/10 from me.
