Off Campus: episode 08 “The Line Change” – review

Hello – hello,

We made it guys! We’re officially on season one’s finale! What a ride!! I didn’t believe that I would make it and I will not miss a day on that journey, but here we are, days later… me writing ( and you reading ) the last review for season one of Off Campus. Before I continue with the post, I’d like to thank you all for being next to me on that ( I’m not crying… okay, maybe a little. )

Anyway… as always, be aware of the spoilers… etc…

The final episode starts with Hannah and Garrett being miserable apart from each other. We see their parallels at the same time, something that is absolutely cinematic and I loved it every time that we got it on the show.

At work, Hannah notices that random guys from the university are being weird around her and when she meets Sean, he informs her about a rumor that’s all over the campus. My personal favorite cringe moment from the book ( that in real life I’m totally against it ), the “Campus-wid hands-off law”!

Well now, even if it was perfect in the book, because Hannah was the one who broke up with him and Garrett knew that she was lying, and worked perfectly, with Garrett mostly being playfully about it, in the show, it wouldn’t work that way. In the series, the one who broke up with the other was Garrett. So, making a “law” on campus after that would be weird and out of character. The writers wanted to include it, because it’s a fan favorite moment, they found a nice alternative. They made some of the rookies in the team start the rumor and seeing poor Garrett having no idea about what’s going on, was kinda hilarious.

Garrett gets in more trouble in the hearing with NCAA after they found that he had taken part in a practice with his favorite team, with which he wants to work after college, and they punish the team by zeroing their points. Now, in order to win the school’s championship, they need only to win ( or tie ) every single game.

Logan, Dean and Tucker are trying to find new players for the team, since Birdie and Garrett are out, but Dean refuses to take some Hunter guy on the team.

Meanwhile, Dean asks Allie to go to his home because he wants to see her, but when she arrives, she asks him to keep their relationship casual and to sleep with other people as well. ( That girl is so scared about her feelings that she’ll make a huge mess. ) Dean agrees because that’s what she wants and she leaves until they both hook up with someone else.

Hannah and Garrett are miserable not being together and the part where they check their social media to see if the other saw their stories was so painfully on point. Garrett being brave ( that’s my boy – I could never – ) and likes his favorite post of hers, and that broke my poor heart. Because Hannah saw it, and she now knows that he’s hurting as well… and please go find each other, for the love of God.

Hannah speaks with Allie and she tells the truth about being raped and Allie just comforts her, letting her know that she already knew but she was waiting for Hannah to feel ready to talk about that. ( Allie my queen, I love you. ) She also tells Allie that after that, she wasn’t able to write lyrics anymore and Allie helps her out, by talking to her about how awesome she is and that Hannah is all. The girl in the past, the girl in the present… and all the girls in the middle. That was a beautiful scene.

Jules helps Hannah with her song and they mention that if she wants, they can ask their friends on the campus radio station to play the song when it’s ready. ( Another Easter egg my people. Grace works in the radio. )

Garrett and Hannah meet on the ice and she tells him that she dropped out of the showcase. On his behalf, he tells her that he’s thinking of quitting hockey. Hannah talks to him and she makes him realise that he actually likes playing and he isn’t doing it for his dad. ( I wanna hug them both and protect them from any harm. ) After she leaves, he watches footage from the day he beat up that piece of shit and sees that the one who stopped it was Logan and he decides to tell him the truth about his dad.

Dean and Beau are having a conversation about him and Allie and Beau tells him to speak to her about his feelings before she finds someone else… And well… We speak about timing here, because why did the hottie she made out with the other day just walk in?

Garrett speaks to his team before the game and makes Logan captain until he comes back. He watches the game from the bleachers and he finally understands how he feels about hockey. The team wins, while Hannah changes her mind and goes to the showcase. Allie informs Dean and Logan convinces Garrett to go win his girl back. ( My boy Logan, I love you. )

Hannah smashed it in the showcase, made us cry with her song and she got her man back. What a day!! After that, they go to Malone’s to celebrate and Dean tells Allie that he didn’t have sex with anyone else because he wants her. Allie, panicking like hell, tells him that she already hooked up with a stranger, and it meant nothing… At the same time that the stranger walks into Malone’s, it is that Hunter guy that Dean hates.

In the book, Allie never slept with Hunter ( if I remember correctly, she didn’t sleep with anyone other than Dean ). Actually, Dean and Hunter are good friends. So, I can’t wait to see how this will go in the series.

Season two starts production in a few days and it’s been confirmed that the main couple will be Allie and Dean. Meanwhile, they will build up the story of Logan and Grace, probably in a similar way they did for Dean and Allie, and the showrunner said that we will also continue seeing Hannah and Garrett as well.

Again, thank you for being here with me on this journey, see you in the next post.

It’s a 9/10 from me.
