My Lady Jane: review

Hello there,

When you already have to catch up on 500 ( more or less ) TV series but scroll down on TikTok, you’ll end up starting another one. My Lady Jane was that series, for me.

The story follows Lady Jane, who became England’s Queen for only 9 days in 1553 before they killed her, but… our series has a twist! It takes place in an alternative universe where the historical facts are slightly different.

While Jane, is convinced that she doesn’t want to get married, but publish her book about herlbology, her mother has other plans. Lady Frances Grey ( Jane’s mom ) arranges a marriage with Lord Dudley’s oldest son, Guildford. Jane tries her best to avoid the wedding since she truly believes that her future husband is an arrogant prick.

The fact that she met a really charming young man though makes her want to get away from that marriage more than ever. Until she finds out that the charming young man is indeed Guildford! When someone plots King’s death, Jane finds herself the crowned Queen of  England but not all her subjects are happy with this.

In a world where Ethians, humans who can take animal form, exist the Queen has to make a choice. Will she continue hunting down those people, making Verity ( the ordinary ones ) happy, or is willing to give all her citizens the same opportunities to live?

My thoughts:

I always like to read or watch alternative realities based on real people and events. My Lady Jane is an excellent adaptation to my list of those films/series. I haven’t read the book, by Cynthia Hand yet, but it’s definitely on my list!

I found the whole story with Ethians really interesting but a little bit silly at the same time. It was a cute thought but a little bit awkward sometimes. At least, it was a nice touch to make the story more interesting.

It’s an 8.5/10 from me, but I have some bad news for you guys. The network canceled the series, so… unfortunately we’ll not be able to see how the story could end. The positive part of this is that the first season has a “kinda” ending so it could count as a closure.

Tell me what you think about the series in the comments below… Was it a good decision of the channel to cancel My Lady Jane or do you think ( as I ) that a second season would give even more popularity to everyone… from the network to the cast and crew?

Until next time…
