TV JUNKIE

Lovely Runner: review ( and why you have to watch it! )

Hello hello there!!

I’m coming back with another K-drama review and couldn’t be happier about what I just watched. But let me start from the beginning. Firstly, I have to blame TikTok and someone’s edit about the main characters that made me want to watch the series, and secondly, the fact that my girl Kim Hye Yoon was the leading female.

I have adored her since watching “Extraordinary You” and was thrilled to see her on another series. The storyline was a bonus, so I decided to watch it and let me tell you that it was the greatest decision – probably – in my life.

After a horrible accident when Sol was a teen, she lost her ability to walk. Destined to spend her entire life in a wheelchair made a huge impact on her mental health. Thinking that the only solution was to put an end to all of this started being her prior thought. Until she came across with a boy band, Eclipse. When the main vocalist, Seon Jae, randomly called her number during a radio interview, everything changed.

Seon Jea reminded Sol of the importance of being alive and that someone out there is happy that she is breathing. From that moment Sol completely changed her priorities, she decided to live to the fullest and fulfill her dreams. She studied to become a director and started working online as a freelance video editor. Something that never gave up though, was her love for Eclipse and mostly for Seon Jea who saved her life.

The night of a huge concert of Eclipse, Sol’s dream company calls her for an interview and she decides to go and return for the concert. Things didn’t as she planned them though. She lost her job because the company wasn’t wheelchair accessible. When she returned to the stadium she noticed that she had lost her ticket. Leaving the venue after the end of the concert, her wheelchair stopped working in the middle of a bridge while snow started falling and the person who stopped to help was none other than Seon Jae himself. Happy to meet her idol Sol falls asleep until the buzzing on her phone wakes her up.

The news about Seon Jae’s death who fell from his hotel room balcony is all over the internet. Sol, heartbroken by the news keeps his watch, which had been bought in an auction, close to her and presses a button by accident. But when she woke up, was 15 years in the past, and she now has only one mission. To find out what really happened and made Seon Jae want to take his own life and stop it.

You have no idea what will hit you watching this series! The plot is plotting people and the plot twists are so incredible that will leave you in shock. I literally couldn’t breathe in some scenes. How the writers ( and probably the writer from the original webtoon ) managed to create this story is unbelievable.! I have no words to describe the feeling. Everything was changing in a beat and you can’t be sure of anything!

The fact that the reality of Seon Jae death was completely different from what they let us think at the beginning is blowminding. I found the whole time travel thing really enjoyable and I liked that she had the ability to go back and forward but wasn’t always her choice.

The actors did an outstanding job and the exchanges between teenagers and adults were so beautiful performed by them, it’s memorable. The main leads had a pretty chemistry and the way that Seon Jae’s character was written, let’s face it… Has ruined real and fictional men for years! The second lead was awesome as well and I find it refreshing that even if Tae Sung liked Sol was respectful and even he managed to be “kinda” friendly with Seon Jae.

I totally loved the ending with its beautiful plot twist at the end ( yeah Granny… I’m talking about you mostly ) and yeah call me a helpless romantic but I love a good happy ending on my shows. Something that made the whole series even better though was the excellent direction and the soundtrack! I will never stop listening to “Sonaki ( Sudden Shower )” without remembering how much Seon Jae loved Sol from the moment that he first saw her and I will probably tear up until the day I die with “A Day”. Jongho’s ( from ATEEZ ) voice is so calm and unique that I can’t even describe the feelings that this song leaves in my soul.

( You can listen to the songs here ( SONAKI ) and here ( A DAY ) by clicking the links ).

The series is a 10/10 for me!! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
