Rating: 8.5/10
Hello everyone! Today I’ d like to share with you one of the latest series I’ ve watched and all the reasons that I think this Jdrama is a must watch. So, let’s start!
I present you, 8 reasosn to love 8loom (you saw what I did there…)
1. The plot
Of course, the main reason for choosing to watch a series is the plot. And in this one, the plot and the way it evolves, is something that really touched me.
Kimi no hana ni naru is about a -not so popular- boy group named “8LOOM”, consisting of 7 young men (yes, the members are not 8). At the beginning of our story, the boys need a live-in manager for their dormitory and the agency ends up hiring Nakamachi Asuka, a 30 year old former teacher to stay with them. Sagami Dan, the leader of the group was a former student of hers. It’ s not easy for 7 people with different personalities to live in the same house and overcome all the strugles and all the pressure the agency are putting on them, but Asuka is there to help them and not only with the housework. She ends up becoming their biggest supporter and their source of strength. They, also, becoming her reason to start finding herself again, awaken her dreams and remember the reasons she chose to become a teacher at first place.
2. The actors
The acting on this drama felt so natural that got me hooked. But what got me more amazed was the 7 group members. These extremely talended boys had to act, sing and dance at the same time. They were so good that even before finishing the first episode, I was already googling if they are an actual boy band (unfortunately, they’re not).
3. Soundtrack
Yes, the plot is a must, but if the plot is 50% about music, music have to be good! And in this series, is very good! Each one of the songs fits so perfectly to the group and the characters and they somehow spread a positive and happy vibe. That fact made me fell so in love with a non-existing boy band and I quickly became a huge fan of them! I was so disappointed when I found out they’ re not a real group that when I finished the series, it felt like one of my favourite groups had disbanded.
4. Miyano Mamoru
I can’t even describe the love and respect I have for this extremely talented man. First of all, he’s an incredibly skilled voice actor. I have to say, he’s my absolute favourite. Also, his deeply singing voice is magic to my ears. And now, I had the pleasure to watch him as an actor and truth is, I completely enjoyed it! Miyano Mamoru is an iconic person. At the series, he was the manager of “8loom”. The role he played fitted him 100% and I really got the feeling that he just took the script and wrote his character on his own.
Is he the reason I started watching this Jdrama? Well…maybe. Nevertheles, he is the reason I found out about this series, so it’s a win win situation.
5. The love story
I don’ t want to spoil anything about this love story, I just wanna say that if you think this is a typical teacher-student romance -thank gods- it is not! For starters, both of them are adults. There maybe (or maybe not) some reasons that these two shouldn’t be together, but age gap is definitely not one of them. Furthermore, we’re so used to see a male leader much older than the female, but an older female leader is something unusual, especially in a Jdrama and that’s is surely something that got me very excited. Despite their age, the most important is how these two people get connected and help each other grow and bloom.
6. The message
“Kimi no hana ni naru”, is not only a love story. It’s a story about finding ourselves, grow, bloom and fulfilling our dreams and the plot is equally balancing romance music and comedy.
All the characters (from main to side roles), are very well-written and have a story to tell. But they all teach you the same lesson. Doesn’t matter your age, but when is the moment you feel ready to take a step forward. Even if it’s for your career, your relationship or whatever it is. Just do it. There is the right time for everything and it’s never too late to achieve your dreams.
7. Character development
I’m a sucker for character development. And in this series, there is a lot!
There are a lot of different personalities and it’s very interesting to watch the 7 members adjust in a group, learn to respect each other, trust each other and most importantly, work as a team and find the role that fits them.
The entire series is about blooming. The characters, the group, the music, the relationships, friendship, Miyano Mamoru! Everything is constantly blooming!
8. Variety of the characters
The last reason that this Jdrama got me amazed and proves that is not a stereotypical one, is that you don’t usually see all these different characters at this type of series. For example, a powerful female lead, a much younger male lead, a gay character or an aromantic character and that variety, feels much closer to reality. All the characters are unique and different from each other and you will surely find yourself identify with one of them.
I hope you found a reason to start watching this series. If not, just watch it for Miyano Mamoru.
Thanks for reading,
Utaku
