Hello – hello…
Welcome back to another book review, this time about Elsie Silver’s popular small-town cowboy romance series, “Chestnut Springs”. Today, we will talk about the first book, “Flawless”, the story of Rhett and Summer.
Rhett is a world champion cowboy, or whatever that sport is that they ride a bull for 8 seconds, called. He is rich and an athlete with great sponsorships and a huge fanbase. Until he caught talking about how much he hates milk, on camera! ( Not that I can’t relate, though – even if I love cheese – ). Now, his sponsors drop like flies, and his manager takes things into his own hands to prevent things from getting worse.
In order to keep him in line, he has a plan. Rhett Eaton needs a babysitter, and his manager has the perfect candidate for the job ( even if she hasn’t volunteered to do that ). His own daughter, Summer.
Due to the circumstances, the two don’t start that work relationship in the best way. But, as the weeks go by she can’t stop thinking that her celebrity crush may be something more than that. Rhett, on the other hand, can’t stand when another man has her attention. Because, she has to keep her focus only on him. He hates to share what it is his ( or at least what he’d wish to be his ) with anyone else.
My opinion: ( beware of spoilers )
I wasn’t expecting to like this book so much. I decided to read it because it is a TikTok-famous series and I was curious. Truth be told, Silver created some characters that you can relate to. They’re not perfect, but not too broken as well.
I liked that Rhett didn’t hesitate to step in to defend Summer, even if it wasn’t his smartest moment! Summer’s support is definitely a plus, because the way that she tried to support his dream, even if she wanted him to quit, made me like her even more.
Personally, I found Summer’s relationship with her dad adorable and refreshing. I had a great relationship with my dad while he was still alive, but we never were best friends, so we didn’t talk like that to each other. But it was nice to see their interactions.
Something that I’d like to happen, though, is to see Summer’s relationship with her sister, Winter. Although I guess this will probably be the plot for another book. Another relationship that I’d like to see take a turn was Rhett’s with his dad and his brothers. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the Eaton boys, but I’m a little pissed that none of them truly support Rhett with his carrier, just because it was too dangerous… His brother Beau is in the army, for God’s sake!!
Anyways, in conclusion, the book was good! With its cliches and some not-perfect plots ( warning: one of the sub-stories, with Summer’s ex, is about grooming ), but it was good. Plus, the series has four more books, so we will probably see more of those issues ( I hope ).
And before I leave you ( and go start the second book ), what a plot twist that Summer’s dad intentionally made her work with Rhett, because he thought that they’d be good together?! Chef’s kiss.!!
It’s a 4.2/5 stars from me.
