Hello – Hello,
Cali Melle has returned with the third book, “Make Your Save”, in the series “Aston Archers Hockey” ( read about the two previous here: “Make Your Move” & “Make Your Play” ) and so do I with my review about the new book.
In “Make Your Save”, the main characters are Hadley and Rowan, who have already history… but not the one that you may think. The two of them have known each other for years. Growing up in the same city and with Hadley being his little brother’s ex, Rowan was shocked when he met her at the hospital when Riley, his teammate’s wife, gave birth ( and almost died ). He hadn’t seen her in years, and he couldn’t blame her for disappearing. His idiotic brother had broken that girl’s heart beyond repair.
Hadley wasn’t planning to meet Rowan other than that unexpected night at the hospital. So, when she found a baby at the hospital’s “safe haven”, she was supposed to inform her supervisor. Well, until she read the note from the mother, at least, letting them know that the father was Rowan Taylor. Knowing how the system works and that if Rowan was really the father would be really difficult to take custody of the baby, without even thinking what she was doing, she took the baby and called him immediately.
Now, they have to pretend that they are engaged in order for Rowan not to lose the custody of the baby, which he had no idea that he had. Luckily, it’s only for a couple of months, and then everyone will take their separate ways. So, what could go wrong?
My opinion:
The writer has created two really good characters. Neither of them is ready to become parents, but they try their best and they do a good job as a team. I liked this couple as much as the previous ( or maybe a little more ), and even if, once more, I didn’t fall in love with them, I had a great time reading their story.
Of course, I liked the preview that we got about the next couple, and let’s not forget that it’s so awesome to keep seeing all the other pop up in the book as well. The next one’s couple will be Rowan’s best friend with one of his one-night stands, and her adorable son, who may or may not be his son as well…
In this rhythm, soon the whole team will have at least one kid, but I guess that’s the trope after all. Reading these books, I have come to the realisation that the single parent trope is not one of my favorites, and maybe that’s why I didn’t love those beautiful characters more, but at least Melle has made me want to read about them more, and that’s something good.
It’s a 3.5/5 stars from me.
Let me know in the comments below your thoughts about the book. Have you read it? Does it have a place on your TBR? Or you’re totally against reading the single-parent trope? Also, don’t forget to subscribe through your email to be sure that you will never miss an update from us.
Until next time…
