A Court Of Thorns And Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Hello hello,

Today I will talk to you about “A court of thorns and roses” ( a.k.a ACOTAR ) by Sarah J. Maas. I have kept seeing all over the internet these book since last year, I’m not gonna lie. But, I had to postpone them for a while. I had other books in my TBR and I was trying to be faithful to them ( please don’t laugh ).

Now, it’s finally their time though! With ACOTAR being the first book that I started in 2025 I think I made a great choice.

“A Court Of Thorns And Roses” is the first book and follows the life of 19-year-old human Feyre. Growing up in a world where faeries are real and living in their deepest nightmares, she has to do whatever it takes to feed her family. After humans had won the war between them and faeries, winning their freedom, the two species shared their lands. South of the Wall, the Mortal Lands and Noth of the Wall the Faerie Realms and most specifically Prythian.

Prythian, divided into 7 Courts ( Night Court, Day Court, Dawn Court, Winter Court, Summer Court, Autumn Court and Spring Court ) was the land that humans feared the most. Feyre’s family, after her dad’s misfortune, went to live in a small village, near the Wall. Growing up having no one to protect or care about her ( since her sisters cared only about each other and her dad… well, hadn’t a choice to do a lot ) she became the protector of her family. Hunting in the forest, selling the furs and putting meals on their table.

Until one day… she killed the wrong wolf. A High Fae, shapeshifted into a wolf. When the High Lord of Spring Court comes to claim the “payment” for breaking the Treaty between Faeries and Humans, Feyre has to go with him.

Seeing how her hating starts becoming curing for those creatures and at last love, truly – deeply love for their High Lord is beautiful. But at Pruthian, it’s not all rainbows and sunshine. The curse that the people of Spring Court carry ( they’re stacked wearing masks ) it comes to full force and Feyre has to figure out what is that power everyone is afraid of, and stop it, before it’s too late.

My thoughts: ( beware the spoilers !!! )

I liked this book so much! The way that Maas has created this world is unbelievable. In the beginning, the story is a little slow, but it’s totally normal. We have to learn a lot of things about the characters and their world. She didn’t want to give all the answers or the plot twists on our plates. I enjoyed the way that she wrote Feyre and Tamlin’s love story and ( yeah, I’m a romantic sometimes ) I loved that she almost sacrificed herself to free him ( and his people ) from Amarantha.

The trials kept me on edge and especially the last one, that she had to kill or not Tamlin was so stressful. Very smart the detail about them talking about the curse when she could hear them and she managed to connect the dots ( I would die, no lies ). The High Lords turning her into a High Fae to save her was something that I didn’t expect and I believe that it would play a huge role in sifting her character in the next books.

CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT RHYSAND??? My one and only ( ok, maybe Lucien too ). The way that we met him at first, not knowing who he is, but we thought that it wasn’t a random guy… When he went to see Tamlin, crushing their lunch… ( that scene was so good that I needed a two-hour break from reading to process what had happened). And let’s not forget that he was the perfect double agent. Yeah , he did some things that I didn’t like, but let’s not forget that he’s not a “good guy”. He’s a character who would do anything in his power to protect his people ( and Feyre ). I will call him a “gray guy”.

Unfortunately, I have learned by accident a spoiler ( a huge one ) but I’m ok with that twist of the story, so no problem.

I didn’t like that we saw so little of Feyre’s sisters, especially Nesta. I believe that she could be a great character.  Especially when we saw them build up a relationship when Feyre had to go back to the Morat Lands. Also, I didn’t like the choice that Feyre made on the third trial, killing those faeries, but I understand that she had no choice. It was two lives, to save millions.

In conclusion, it was a great book and I can’t wait to read the next one.

It’s a solid 4.5/5 from me!

Let me know what you think about the book, or the series ( don’t include spoilers for the other books please ) in the comments below.

Until the next time.
