Hannah Grace returns with her second book, Wildfire, and I couldn’t be happier that I had the luck to find her books so early.
The story:
Right after the events of “Icebreaker” it’s finally summertime at Maple Hills. Nate’s team throws a party, to celebrate another college year that ended, at their place and a drinking game will be the reason Russ and Aurora end up spending a passionate night together. When Aurora slips away from his bedroom Russ believes that it was the last time that he saw her.
The universe has other plans for them though. When Aurora returns to her favorite summer camp as a staff member, who had spent most of her summers as a child, she would never think that one of the other staff members would be her best one-night stand ( ever ).
With their sexual tension high and the rules about “no staff fraternizing” both of them will have a difficult time keeping their hands to themselves. Or else, they gonna lose their job, and Russ is something that can’t afford to sacrifice.
( Spicy warning: the author does a graphic representation writing the sex scenes. If you don’t like reading that kind of book maybe will feel a little bit uncomfortable. )
My thoughts ( spoiler alert ):
I’m not gonna lie, I think I liked this story a little more than Icebreaker. Aurora and Russ managed to make me have a really good time, even when they had to deal with their personal problems and their fathers’ drama. I totally enjoyed that this book was free from “second lead” drama ( Icebreaker hadn’t one as well, but I will never get over Aaron and his terrible personality ). Wildfire has a smoother vibe, maybe because it’s set in summer but I found it warm and sweet.
I absolutely adored how Aurora and Russ started trusting each other, even if they had never done that before, and they started opening up. I can’t relate to their daddy issues, since my father was my hero growing up ( I lost him almost two years ago and I still miss him like Hell ), so I can’t understand fully how is to not have your dad around or not be able to “use” him as your rock. Although, I think that Grace managed to write two different stories with a common denominator.
Seeing the 9.5 years time jump, made me really happy. Knowing that they managed to stay together, be happy, and have a small zoo in their house was everything I could ask for. I loved that Russ’s father truly changed and he was there for both of them, and especially for Aurora, since her dad stayed a prick.
And the more details that we learned, made me even more happy. Aurora opened the bookstore that she had always dreamed of, Nate and Anastasia having three kids and a dog, even the small spoiler about Henry’s story…
I’m pretty sure that if she keeps writing that way, The Maple Hills series will be a fan favorite for years.
Mini trivia:
Hannah Grace’s other books, in this series is Icebreaker which is the first one and the third one is Daydream.
It’s a 4.5/5 stars from me. Let me know in the comments if you have read the book and what you think. Did you like it, or not?
Until next time…
