War Of Y: review ( no spoilers )

Hello there my little faces. War Of Y is perhaps the most subversive series until now. This 2022 production comes to shake up the waters of the BL series industry.

The series is about a group of young actors who are trying to make it in the BL series industry. While all the protagonists’ stories are connected and there is an overarching storyline, the season is divided into 5 stories, one for each couple, divided equally by 5 episodes each.

In each story, we watch how each couple tries to establish themselves in the field while at the same time having a personal life, something that often cannot happen. Rivalry, hatred, and goals that they try to achieve by any means are the main ingredients of the series.

My opinion:

If you want to watch something sweet, with dreamy scenes, unparalleled love between the main characters and a happy ending… then this series is not for you! War of Y is the exact opposite! It shows us what really goes on behind the cameras and when the lights go out.

The series is a punch in the stomach of the viewers. It shows us how trapped actors are by managers and production companies. How “true” can the fanservice that most of the time the actors are forced to be presented. It shows us how soul-destroying it is for artists to always present themselves as perfect, inside and out, and how many times they are forced to change their entire character in order to be accepted by fans.

I personally liked it a lot, as it showed us some very taboo subjects and they tried through the series to remind fans ( the toxic ones specifically ) that artists are not their property because they are public figures who chose this profession. They are people who have the right to live their private moments as and with whomever they want.

It has not yet been announced if there will be a second season, but I believe the series will be renewed.

It’s a 7.9/10 from me.
