Many years after the Great War, civilization has returned to a primitive state. In a world where Elves rule the Four Lands, most humans survive by stealing, while trolls hunt Elves for food. Everything begins to fall apart when the Ellcrys starts to die.
The Ellcrys is a magical tree that keeps the demons imprisoned. Every leaf represents a demon, and when the last leaf falls, the demons will be unleashed upon the world. With time running out, three unlikely heroes must come together to save both the Ellcrys and the Four Lands.
Princess Amberle of the Elves, the human Rover Eretria and Wil Ohmsford (the half-human, half-elf last descendant of Shannara) set out on a dangerous journey to find Safehold, the only place that may be able to restore the Ellcrys. Along the way they discover much more than they expected: loyal friends, ruthless enemies, unexpected romance and challenges that push them far beyond their limits.
The first season that was produced by MTV surprised many viewers with its impressive visual effects. At times, the fantasy landscapes and action sequences are reminiscent of The Lord of the Rings. The series is based on the Shannara novels by Terry Brooks and consists of ten episodes.
After the first season, MTV cancelled the show, but it was picked up by Spike TV. The second season premiered on October 11, bringing new adventures and even greater dangers to the Four Lands.
If you’re a fan of fantasy series filled with magic, adventure and memorable characters, The Shannara Chronicles is definitely worth watching. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
