My first day of summer vacation started in the best way possible, by watching the movie everyone was waiting for! Red, White, and Royal Blue is based on Casey McQuiston’s book with the same title.
Prince Henry of England and the USA’s president’s son Alex hate each other! When Alex attended Henry’s brother’s wedding at Buckingham Palace, everything went to Hell. The two of them ended up in the news and the countries’ leaders came up with a plan to make everyone believe that they are friends.
Alex and Henry start spending time together and they realize that they have more in common than they thought. While they attend various events together they start talking more, telling stories of each other, and exchanging opinions. Eventually, they start developing feelings for each other but things can’t be that easy.
Alex’s mom running for president again, while Henry’s royal family would never accept a queer person as a royal family member. They have to be careful, so no one finds out that they are in a relationship. Meanwhile, they continue to fall in love more each day.
This movie made me cry, and I hadn’t cried about a movie or series for a while. The movie is so well written and the directing so beautiful. They managed to show us through directing scenes the love story of those two and made us understand and feel what they were going through.
Beautifully written main and side characters made the movie only better, while the chemistry between Nicholas and Taylor is out of this world. The final speech of Alex to the media, made me cry.
“Every queer person has the right to come out on their own terms or choose not to come out at all.”
“Please be patient with me, and I promise I will try and be brave for us. Because when they write the history of my life, I want it to include you and my love for you” quote by Henry was by far one of my favorites in the movie.
The only negative that I have to point out is that it’s summer and I can’t hide myself under my blankets and cry my eyes out about the fact that I loved the movie and its characters.
I give the movie an 8.5/10!!
I really enjoyed it and I will definitely watch it again at some point ( I also may or may not buy the book as well ).
Let me know your opinion about the movie in the comments below.!
Until the next time…
