I finally watched Disney+’s adaption of “Percy Jackson” books and I’m here to say my opinion.
First of all, let’s talk a little bit about the plot. Percy is a troubled kid. He tries to be a good student but it seems he can’t. He has dyslexia and he gets distracted way too easily making his teachers believe that he doesn’t try enough and his classmates to find ways to bully him. The fact that he sometimes sees things that other people can’t doesn’t help with his situation… at all!
Sally, his mom, tries her best to help him but Percy sometimes feels like he’s a burden that she tries to avoid locking him up in private schools or taking him to museums talking to him all the time about Greek mythology. When one day on a school field trip to a museum Percy sees one of his teachers transform into a monster, even Grover, his best friend tells lies about him and gets him expelled from school. His mom decides to go on a small vacation to her favorite place to calm him down and she promises to talk to him.
When they arrived at that cabin near the sea though, Grover came to tell them that it was no more time and they had to leave! Percy demands to tell them the truth but no one ever is ready to accept that he is the son of a Greek God and his best friend is an actual Satyr. Running from the monsters that someone is sending to hunt them down, they have to make it into the Half Blood Camp before it’s too late. But something more dangerous is happening and Percy with Grover and Annabeth, the most clever girl in the camp, have to solve the quest before it’s too late for everyone.
The series is pretty decent and the kids who play the main roles are excellent. They have great chemistry and they also have good acting skills, even if they are so young. I liked the way that they showed us all the events that happened in the book and they treated the Greek mythology with the amount of respect that I expected. Even on the small twists that we saw, I loved all of them.
After all, no monster is only evil and no hero is only good. We are not able to know everything that every person holds in their hearts and I liked that they make some of them more like “grey” characters than pure evil or good. I liked that they chose so young actors for the roles, it was closer to the original book characters. The CGI was really on point but I expected that. We’re talking about Disney after all.
I can’t find something that bothered me enough to remember it, but I would probably like to see some characters a little bit longer.
The series takes a 7.8/10 from me and I will keep watching it if returns for another season.
Let me know what you think about the series in the comments below.
Until next time…
