Hello – hello,
How on earth have we already made it to episode 5? I mean, congrats to myself for keeping writing the reviews and I didn’t miss a day, and to you for ( hopefully ) waiting for them to be posted. So, congrats to both of us. We should be proud.
In this line is your warning to save this post and return later if you don’t want to read spoilers.
Episode five starts right after the scene where Hannah sings to Garrett about her feelings. The two are finally getting together and we see a fast-forward montage of how their relationship is after becoming a couple. Full of sweet moments, sex, funny moments, sex, domestic moments, sex…
Hannah talks to her mom about Thanksgiving and her mom meets Garrett through the video call and she tells him that she and her husband are really proud of his game last night, no matter if he lost. My poor boy almost started crying. I don’t even know when was the last time someone told him that they’re proud of him.
Phil, Garrett’s dad, is trying to convince him that he has changed and he wants his son to be part of his new family with Cindy, his fiancée. He asks him to go home for Thanksgiving and Garrett asks Hannah to go with him.
Logan and Jules are having a conversation about their mom, who is in rehab and they kinda argue if they have to go see her or not. But eventually he follows his sibling and together visit the clinic where leaving a meal for their mom. ( Have I mentioned that I don’t like Jules? I don’t know why they put their character on the show and they give me bad vibes. Cudos to the actor though. ) I still don’t understand why the writers changed Logan’s backstory… In the books, the one with the addiction problem is his dad… but we have to wait and see I guess…
Tucker gets prepared for Thanksgiving, but Garrett and Dean cancel on him to visit their families. ( Although all their friends and their friends who have nowhere to spend the Holiday, went to the boys’ home to celebrate all together ). At the same time, Allie and Hannah talk about Hannah being nervous about meeting Garrett’s dad. Allie tries her best to calm her down, but she has to go catch the bus to New York, as she has to visit her family. ( I didn’t know that buses now are blue jeeps my dear Allie… With whom do you sneak around, you little sneaky cat? )
Garrett and Hannah are going to Phil’s and everything seems to go well. He is giving a tour of the house to his girlfriend and at the end, they end up in his old bedroom. They talk a little bit and Garrett says to her that when he cannot be able to play hockey anymore, he will be relieved.
Garrett and Phil are having a nice conversation about hockey, meanwhile Hannah takes a photo of Garrett and his mom from the wall and she finds a smash by a hand there. During dinner, Garrett sees Cindy’s bruises and he loses it. He can’t accept that his dad is doing the same things to his new fiancée. He asks Cindy to leave him because it wasn’t something he had ever done before. He did, to Garrett and his mom, for years. In the book, that scene had destroyed me… and in the series was the same painful to watch.
Hannah and Garrett leave and he literally cries in her arms after he confessed to being abused by his dad. They end up at Malone’s eating sandwiches with cold turkey and the boys call them to wish each other for the Holiday. They also call Dean, who surprise – surprise, is shirtless… And he is shirtless because he is spending the night with Allie! ( I mean, what the hell just happened? )
This episode, I felt that it was a little rushed… I’d like to actually see Garrett and Hannah together for a bit, but it was still okay. The plot twist that hit all of us though, was Dean and Allie being together so early! We had some rumors that they will be the main couple in season 2 ( even if their story is the third one in the books ) and I was so afraid that they would mix up the timeline. Fortunately, they seemed to manage to make it work, and thank God because the chemistry between these two is out of this world.
It’s a 8.5/10 from me.
