Hello there! Today I’m very glad to share with you my favorite BL of 2024 so far, because I believe “Monster Next Door” is a hidden gem that you should definitely watch.
Monster Next Door (2024)
Slow burn romance between an introvert and an extrovert.
Country: Thailand
Episodes: 12 (45’ each)
Genres: Romance
My Rating: 10/10
Casting
Big Thanakorn as God
Park Anantadej Sodsee as Diew
Plot
Diew is an introvert. He has a close friend, but he spends most of his time alone, listening to music, reading books, talking to his turtle, solving puzzles and taking care of his plants.
God is an extremely extrovert person. He likes group activities such as playing drums with his band or playing basketball and he’s very outgoing. He has 3 close friends who he loves spending time with, but he easily communicates with a lot of people.
Diew and God end up living next to each other and as Diew is very shy to meet God in person, they’re starting to build a relationship talking to each other through their balconies. Their relationship starts to develop slowly and they soon discover that their worlds may be different, but they are more compatible than it seems.
There a lot of things that I loved and appreciated in this series, and I can’t wait to discuss them with you:
Relationships
I loved the main couple! They’re both the cutest green flags ever. They slowly but steadily build a very healthy relationship. They both are caring and respectful to each other and they always talk and communicate.
What can I say about the second couple though? They are the type of couple that can make you REALLY angry about how dumb they are, but they are so cute and so damn perfect for each other. I really enjoyed watching their story as they start from friends and become lovers, that I wished they had more scenes together.
Friendship
Friendship is really important in this series. I loved how they emphasize a lot the precious role that friends play to our lives and the importance of having good friends to discuss your problems with. But especially, I want to give Biu, the only girl in God’s group of friends, a pat on the back for all the boy drama she had to endure! She’s truly the Queen of friendship.
Family bonding
Family too, plays an important role in “Monster Next Door”. Without unnecessary drama, they’re pointing the importance of family communication and how parents should respect their children needs and understand that they have different personalities from them and they need to live their own lives.
Acting
Acting was enjoyably good and although I think that 1 or 2 side characters were a bit flat, all the main and supporting actors were very good and very expressive, so that you could totally bond with all of them.
Realism
I really appreciate the fact that there is a lot of realistic characters in this series. It’s easy to identify yourself with one of them, not because you may be an introvert or an extrovert yourself, but mostly because their characters and actions are very well-written and authentic, with the bonus of good acting.
Conclusion
To conclude, I just love this series, mostly because the realism of the plot and the character development. The idea of an introvert-extrovert romance seemed beautiful to me and I also love slow burn, so that was a perfect combination, beautifully executed.
I also liked, that they pointed the fact that maybe we should not put labels on us, because an introvert could become very cheerful and talkative around people they feel confident with and an extrovert can also become very shy around people that are important to them.
What I really kept from this series, is that two seemingly different people can perfectly match with each other and none of them has to change in order to be together.
I’d be glad to hear your opinion in the comments and you can like and subscribe to read more from us!
