It’s okay to not be okay: review ( no spoilers )

Hello there little faces. Today we’ll talk about another kdrama that I loved. It’s okay to not be okay is a Korean series production 2020. The series is a romantic love story with drama and comic elements that in every such series we love to see. The starring trio is Kim Soo-Hyun, Seo Ye-Ji and Oh Jeong-Se as the brother of Kim Soo-Hyun’s character.

The story is about Gang-tae who works as a social worker in a mental health facility while living with his autistic older brother, Sang-tae, and the famous children’s book author Mun-yeong. Gang-tae, is forced to live a life chased by the ghosts of his brother’s past and Mun-yeong is cut off from everyone after not learning what it is like to receive love. The two of them will share their physical and mental traumas and will have to learn to rely on someone other than themselves for the first time.

The series has a bit of a weird direction which may surprise you a bit at first but it gets used to very quickly. The themes of the series make sense as they delve too deep into mental health issues, something we were not used to seeing very often in Korean productions. Through its well-written episodes, this series shows how much someone can be psychologically affected by their family and friendly environment even without realizing it. Interesting characters are presented who try to fight their demons sometimes with a positive result and sometimes not.

The chemistry of Kim Soo-Hyun and Seo Ye-Ji is unquestionable as well as their acting skills, but the show stole Oh Jeong-Se with his acting.

The series consists of 16 episodes of approximately 75 minutes each and is available on Netflix.
