Bring it on, Ghost: review ( no spoilers )

Hello – hello my little faces. The series is a South Korean production of 2016 and has elements of fantasy, a small dose of thriller, romance and plenty of laughter. Starring TaecYeon and Kim So-Hyun.

The story revolves around Park Bong-Pal who is a uni student. Bong-Pal, however, has the ability to see ghosts. Something he uses to make money by doing exorcisms. When he meets Hyun-Ji who is a ghost, things get complicated.

Hyun-Ji who lost her memory after her death five years ago, all she knows is her name. But when he meets Bong-Pal while they are fighting, she begins to remember some things about how she was killed. In order to regain her memory, she starts to follow Bong-Pal everywhere, which he finds annoying.

Eventually the two of them begin to do exorcisms together as Hyun-Ji tries to stay by his side until she fully recovers her memory. At the same time, the evil spirit that has haunted Bong-Pal since he was a child reappears with the sole aim of finally grasping the young student’s body.

My thoughts:

The series is quite interesting with beautiful references to the ghost stories that the protagonists encounter each time. The cast is pretty good while the direction is at very good levels. Fans of ghost stories should keep in mind that the series is not a thriller and that the relationship between the two protagonists plays a key element to the story. But this does not negate the fact that we have many “fights” with ghosts.

The series consists of 16 one-hour episodes and is available on Netflix.
