Hello there my adorable little faces. Today, I will talk to you about a tv series that I had “on pose” for almost two years and now I regret it so damn much. Of course, I’m talking about Starz network’s “Black Sails”.
The story.
Basically, it’s a pirate show. A brutal one… We follow Captain Flint ( Toby Stephens ) and his crew on a journey to loots and pirate fights in order for them to rule one on another. The new member on Flint’s crew, John Silver ( Luke Arnold ), supports that he is a chef to survive something that it’s complete a lie. He eventually becomes friends with Billy Bones ( Tom Hopper ) but he has different plans. The story takes place in the Bahamas, in the city Nassau where the leader there is the young Eleanor Guthrie ( Hannah New ), in charge to keep the pirates in order. Flint’s most powerful enemy is Captain Charles Vane ( Zach McGowan ), with his loyal crew. Vane’s most trusted are Jack Rackham ( Toby Schmitz ) and Anne Bonny ( Clara Paget ). Every show that respects its self though has a character who would do whatever it takes to survive and on Black Sails, this character is Max ( Jessica Parker Kennedy ).
All those characters leaving the pirate life, with no laws and consequences ( other than the pirate laws of course ) but all these are in risk of losing them when Brittain sends the new Government to Nassau to put the place back in order.
My thoughts with some spoilers.
Truth be told, I started this series two years ago and I put it on hold on episode 2×03 because it was kinda… boring. Noone had thought to put the characters start giving some hints of their past, their stories or their true motives and that bored me. Until my sister literally forced me to watch the 2×04 and everything changed.
It was like I was watching a different show. I don’t know if they changed the writers, directors or not but out of the blue everything started getting in order. Characters that I hated since then became my loved ones, stories that we had no idea about them made me see people with a different eye and actions of others made me think who the hell was right not who wasn’t.
I will not lie to you, I cried when Vane died ’cause he was my favorite but I can see why he had to die. His decision ( and writers of course ) was the main reason for the other pirates to start the revolution but I will never forgive the person was responsible for his death ( even if she died ).
Of course, if you are a romantic soul this show is not a 10 for you but it has some really good and strong couples. I was amused by how anti-homophobic and anti-racist the show is and it’s something that I really liked it.
The two last episodes of the fourth season almost gave me a heart attack. I was on edge and I literally forgot to breathe on some scenes. I also truly believe that I got some grey hair after the finale.
I will not tell you what happened, ’cause it would be a huge spoiler, but I will tell you that I liked it and I’m pretty happy with the outcome of the events. All the characters got the closure that they deserved and it was worthy of the waiting.
I totally recommend it to you!! It’s a 9.5/10 for me, only because season one was so boring… It’s well written and all the character have such character development that you could not believe it!! I will leave you now with the thought that I made you want to watch it.
PS John Silver, Charles Vane, Anne Bonny and Joji ( Winston Chong ), are some of my favs. Even if Joji never spoke on the whole series ( we literally never heard him speak!! N E V E R ).
