What If

What If: Tessa Gray Lived In Athens?

What if Tessa Gray from Cassandra Clare’s universe of Shadowhunters lived in Athens?

My friend Mary had a great idea about what she would like to read in the blog a while ago. “What if you start a column in which you write what a fictional character would like to do in Athens? Or something like that?” Back then, I liked the concept of that, but it took me a while to figure out how something like that could work…

So, let’s see together if that would be possible or not.

Morning Routine:

Tessa Gray as an immortal warlock could definitely move in modern Athens, in Greece even for a while at some point. Having been alive for centuries, her taste would be very classy, and knowing what she likes to do I think we are ready to follow her on a warm Saturday in her life.

On weekends, Tessa would like to do things that allow her to relax ( if she doesn’t have to go to a Downworld meeting in the secret places that Downworlders own around Plaka and Ermou Street – but you didn’t learn that from me – ). After she’d wake up and have a quick breakfast eating a sandwich with fresh salad, prosciutto, and cottage cheese, Tessa would take her purse with her thermos filled with cold water and would lock the door ( checking it twice ) behind her.

Strolling Through Athens:

Her apartment probably would be around a park so she could see and smell the trees but also somewhere close to downtown so I think it would be located in Pagrati, around its park “Alsos”. After a short walk, she would arrive at her favorite small café named Σου Σου ( Sou Sou ) where the barista would know her exact coffee order, and before she could say anything else than a “Kalimera” ( Good morning ) the barista would start to prepare her Freddo Espresso with two brown sugars and she would just give them her coffee cup to fill it with her favorite liquid ( if she hadn’t left it on the small table next to her apartment’s door ).

Her walk would continue until the Panathenaic Stadium, which she would like to admire from afar and smile to herself with the amount of people waiting in line to visit it. Waiting at the traffic light to cross the road the woman next to her would look at her annoyed because Tessa had shaken her coffee cup too many times making the most satisfying sound with the iced cubes. Walking through the Gardens of Zappeio she would take the same pictures with her phone every single time and then she would post them on her Instagram account under the username “ajournalofawitch” or something like that. Arriving at her destination, in National Garden, would take a moment to admire her favorite spot of trees and then would go to find if her favorite spot to do picnics would be free. After being lucky and finding it empty would take off her blanket, her thermos, and her book from her bag and would enjoy a few hours in peace, reading and listening to her favorite music.

Afternoon Delight:

The moment that she would be ready to start feeling hungry, one of her friends, a Greek Downworlder Pixie would text her about having lunch and their date would take place at their favorite Ramen place around Monastiraki called So So So Ramen. They would catch up on their life events and a while after they would finish eating they would decide to go for a cold lemonade at one of Tessa’s favorite cafes downtown called Vryssaki. Likely, would find the last available table free and would enjoy their refreshments chatting about little things.

Afternoon Relaxation:

Her day would end returning to her apartment and continuing the marathon of the show that she had started recently on her balcony, relaxing on the small sofa cuddling by her fluffy blanket. For dinner would choose a salad and after dinner, a warm tea would accompany her reading her book, while the weather would be colder to stay on the balcony but Tessa would just ignore the crispy wind because the book characters would be ready to kiss.

I don’t know what you would have pictured Tessa would do on a Saturday, but I hope that my version of her day made you feel that this could happen in her life. Let me know in the comments If you liked the article if you want me to write a similar article about your favorite fictional character ( from a book, a tv series, etc ) and I’ll do my best to write it!

Hope you liked it. Until next time…
