Reckless by Elsie Silver

Hello hello!!

I’m back with another book review! Today, we’ll talk about the fourth book in Elsie Silver’s “Chestnut Springs” series, “Reckless”. After Flawless,  Heartless and Powerless, which I absolutely loved, it was finally time to read about Winter and Theo!!

Seeing them meeting each other on “Powerless” gave me the impression that this story, and couple, would be one of my favorites from the series, and guess what. I was right!

After everything Winter found out about her husband did to her sister Summer ( on “Flawless” ), she reaches her limit. Having someone who had groomed her little sister as a life partner wasn’t her life plan and after she lost her baby too, she decides to leave him, once and for all.

Winter gathers her courage and contacts her sister in order to talk and Summer invites her to their family Christmas dinner. Little did she know that the guy she literally drooled over at the gas station on her way there would be at the same dinner party as well.

Theo was a lot of things. A son, a brother, a bull rider, Rhett’s best friend and totally crushed for the tiny,  blonde fireball in front of him, who was yelling at him like an angry live-action Tinkerbell. Apparently, all the times Rhett was telling him stories about Summer’s awful big sister, he forgot to mention that she was breathtaking as well.

One thing leads to another, and long story short, all their bickering ends up on their best one-night stand, ever! Winter put some ground rules though, about that being a one-time only thing and even if Theo knew that he wanted more, he decided to give her some time.

Eighteen months to be exact. And now he is back, flirting with her again like nothing ever happened. As he never ignored her calls. As he never texted back, “thanks for letting me know”. Winter at the beginning, thought that he was a decent guy. But no decent man pretends he has no daughter and keeps flirting with the baby’s mother.

My thoughts.

Holly Molly! I thought that Willa and Cade would be my ultimate favorites from the series, but after reading Winter and Theo’s story, that changed!

I absolutely loved Winter’s complex character so much, how even when everyone still believed that she was an ice-queen, her sister and her family helped her. I adored the fact that she became friends with Sloane, even if I would like to see more of this relationship.

Theo Silva is a walking green flag and I adore that guy with my whole heart. He knew that he wanted Winter from the moment he saw her and he even decided to give her time before he made a move. He could have come back earlier and that misunderstanding would have ended sooner, but anyway ( rolls eyes ). The guy had zero clue that he had a child.

I liked that Theo’s mom was close with Winter. She needed a mother figure and I’m so fed up with every story that includes the mother-in-law to be a bitch or a villain. It was a really nice touch at the end, with her dad and the dollhouse ( read the book for more details on this backstory ). Something else I liked was that not only did Winter not ask Theo to stop doing his job, knowing how important it was for him, even if it was dangerous, but she became his team’s doctor, just to be able to be together and with Vivi ( their baby ) as much as possible.

I will not talk much about Rob, her ex. I will just tell that if anyone wants to team up with me and go punch him, I’m in. I will find a way to enter the book’s word, trust me! Also, Winter’s mom can rot in hell as much as I care; that evil monster has no place in my girl’s life.

I was right about Harvey and Sloane’s mother, and I still don’t know if I’m okay with that storyline. But yeah, maybe it’s just me… ( let me know )

The proposal was so cute and them having another kid on its way was something I was sure would happen. Theo deserved to live it all from the start, even if fate made him lose Vivi’s every “first”. I’d like to see more of that, but again… I’m biased and I’d read 10 more books only for them, so…

I hope the last one in the series, about Beau and Bailey ( “Hopeless” ), will be as good as the others, and I can’t wait to read it!!

It’s a 4.7/5 stars from me.
