Rating: 9/10
Based on a novel.
Hello everyone! Today I’m here to give you another Thai BL drama recommendation and that’s “Pit Babe”.
The story follows Babe, a young racecar driver with the nickname “Pit Babe” and the ability of having heightened senses, that in addition to his talent, help him be the best driver. Truth is, it’s not actually very easy for him to tame all those senses before every race, so he needs a little “help” to calm down. (if you know what I mean…).
In this universe there are a lot of people with special abilities, who are called “alphas”. So, our protagonist is an alpha and he only uses other alphas as partners. At the beginning of the series though, it’s very clear that he’s become tired of them. He can’t find anybody that excites him and can give him a maximum pleasure and he also complains for their bad smell (he’s a hyper-sensitive man, you know). Until one day after a race, he caught a mysterious guy following him. Babe tries to pick a fight with him, but the guy named Charlie, explains to him that he actually is just a fan of his and he wants to ask Babe, if he could lend him one of his many cars and help him become a racer himself.
Babe finally accepts to help Charlie, but he wants something in exchange. So, things get a little hot in there and after an amazing sex that got both of them very pleased, they make an arrangement and Charlie becomes Babes’ boy (not boyfriend, don’t be so happy just yet). Charlie was a great surprise for Babe, as he got truly captivated by his smell. But as the plot goes and the two of them get closer and closer, Charlie’s presence there seems kind of mysterious.
As you watch the first episode, it’s hard to believe that this series could have a serious plot and you may think that it won’t have any drama. “A bit supernatural plot, with a sexy touch”, was what I thought. And that was the part that the screenwriters would be totally laughing at me. Truth is that from the very first episodes, the plot twists are hitting us harder and harder and the anguish is huge. I want to avoid spoiling you, but just to tease you, I ‘d like to say that a certain part of the plot may (or may not) remind you of “Stranger Things”.
What I loved about “Pit Babe”, was the fact that it got me truly hooked from the first episode until the very end. Every character’s identity gets questioned and you find it difficult to decide who to trust. The casting was also a pleasant surprise for me and the chemistry between the couples was great. I’m feeling very lucky though, that I binged the whole series after it ended, because I believe I couldn’t handle waiting a week for every episode.
As for the series universe, some things may confuse you or seem incomprehensible for some reason. But as the episodes go, we end up with no confusion about the plot and everything makes sense at last. If you want a little spoiler to help you understand the plot a little better, just keep in (your open) mind that except from alphas, in this omega (but not actually omega) verse, there are also people called “enigmas”, who also have special abilities, BUT can also curry alphas babies! OK, now everything’s starting to makes sense (I hope).
To conclude, despite the little confusion about the universe, I really liked this series. I may have one or two things that I’m not sure if they needed to happen, but as far as I know, the novel is more explanatory. Overall, Pit Babe was an unexpected surprise for me, as was Charlie for Babe. Wait! Was he, actually? OK, I think I’ll let you decide. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for reading,
