Only for the Holidays by Abiola Bello

Hello, hello!!

We are literally one small breath before Christmas and I think it’s the perfect time to talk to you about “Only for the Holidays” by Abiola Bello.

The story follows Tia, who lives in London and hates everything about the countryside. While she’s on a break with her boyfriend ( even if she’s ready to do whatever it takes for things to become as they were ) her mom informs her that they’re gonna spend the Christmas Holidays in a small town, in the middle of nowhere. And a “no” is not an option. But she has to be back for her boyfriend’s birthday.

Meanwhile, Quincy after his break up with his long-term girlfriend, tries to find a date for the Winter Ball that his family resort hosts this year. Leaving it for the last minute though leaves him with no date at all, and a huge lie to his friends and family that he’ll go with a girl from London.

When Tia arrives at his resort with her mother and sisters, he has a really good idea of how to help them. Or at least, that’s what he thinks.

My thoughts:

I found the book calm and well-written. I liked all the characters, even if Tia was a little bit annoying in some scenes. I get it though, she’s really young and thinks that Mike is the love of her life. Quincy is way more mature than her and I liked the dynamic between them.

I also liked the other side characters and how we saw them a lot filling the story well with their small side stories.

Reading Tia and Quincy’s story had a great time. It was nice reading how from almost enemies, became partners in a fake dating situation and eventually fell in love. I’d like to see if they made it after the holidays indeed, but I guess they did. That’s what I want to believe.

Quincy probably finally decided to move to London to study and be with Tia and they both return to Saiyan Hedge Farm on every holiday to help with the farm and see their friends and family.

It’s a 4/5 star from me.

Let me know what you think when you read it ( or if you already have).

Until next time…
