Hello Hello,
Guess who’s back with another book review? Yeap, your favorite little pixie. ME!! Today, we’ll talk about the fifth ( and the last) book in Elsie Silver’s “Chestnut Springs” series, “Hopeless”. After Flawless, Heartless, Powerless and my personal favorite, Reckless, I didn’t have huge expectations for the final book and I kinda was right. It was good, but not a favorite of mine. But let’s go talk about it.
Bailey is twenty-two years old and the only sister of the most troubled family in Chestnut Springs. Whatever she tries to do, people will always see her like that, except the Eatons, and more specifically, Beau.
After he got hurt on a mission in the military, he couldn’t go back, and he started losing himself. Beau has no purpose in life, he feels useless and he’s having nightmares. After his conversation with Bailey at the bar where she works, he decides to help her fulfill her dreams.
She wants to get away from this town and go study in the university. Bailey informs him that no one hires her for another job because of her last name and she mentions that it could be easier if her last name were Eaton.
Beau disagrees and he puts a bet on her. They will fake their engagement to see if people will treat her differently. She agrees, but he wasn’t expecting that at his thirty-five years, will fell head over toes in love with the twenty-two-year-old bartender of his favorite bar.
My thoughts:
The story was nice and the main couple was good together, but I didn’t manage to love them as much as I loved Winter and Theo, or Willa and Cade. Bailey’s character was okay, but she had too many dark thoughts about how people saw her. Totally understandable, but in combination with Beau’s PTSD, sometimes I felt that they were together just because they shared traumas.
In this book, we didn’t see the past couples a lot and I missed their side stories. Still, I don’t know how I feel about Harvey and Codelia, but anyways… At least Silver confirmed that we’ll not have their story and I’m okay with that.
It’s a 4/5 stars from me.
