Carnival Row

Hello there my little faces. Today’s post will be about the tv series that I started ( and finished ) yesterday. I’m talking about the season one of “Carnival Row” of course. Eight episodes, full of greatness, plot twists, outstanding performances from the whole cast and unbelievable talented directors.

Truth be told, I wasn’t sure how much I’d like this show and that’s one of the reasons that I postponed to do it. Until yesterday morning. It was Sunday, I wasn’t so good ( I’m probably going down with the flu – awesome – ) and I wanted to watch something that I hadn’t already. Carnival Row was one of those shows and the fact that it had aired only its first season with eight episodes was a plus. Long story short, I started watching it and I couldn’t stop.

THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE PLOT.

The story taking place in a Victorian fantasy world were Humans and Faes live together, but not in peace. Fae folks hunting down by Humans and those that can make it alive are obliged to live like animals or work for Humans as servants. Most of the Humans believe that Faes are inferior beings and treat them really bad ( every world – even a fantasy one has their own assholes – ) but some of them working for Faes to have rights.

When the Fairy Vignette Stonemoss ( Cara Delevingne ) has no choice by to leave her homeland and be a refugee the only person that she has there is her old friend Tourmaline Larou ( Karla Crome ). Tourmaline informs her that Vignette’s lover, who she thought that he had died seven years ago, at the war… is alive. He is now an Inspector of the Burgue Constabulary and his name is Rycroft “Philo” Philostrate ( Orlando Bloom ). Philo tries to explain to her that he never wanted to hurt her and he believed that it was the only way to protect her but she can’t forgive him.

Imogen Spurnrose ( Tamzin Merchant ) and her brother Ezra ( Andrew Gower ) are more excited than normal about their new neighbor. They can’t wait to meet this new wealthy man who most likely is handsome and unmarried ( something that Imogen prays God to be true ). When Mr. Agreus Astrayon ( David Gyasi ) arrives though, the scandal is huge! How a Puck found the money to buy a house in their neighborhood? They can’t aloud that to happen.!

At the same time, a series of brutally murders happening all around the Burgue with the victims being both Human and Puck ( it’s another word to call the Faes ) and Philo tries to find the killer. Until his secret is out to the world and everyone believes that he is responsible for those murders. Now, he has to prove that he is innocent before it’s too late.

I totally loved the first season and if you watch it I think you’ll do as well because so many more things happen that I can’t tell you about! I mean, you can’t even think about them! Bloom and Delevingne have great chemistry and the “huge age deference” that some people find it so bad ( this is me rolling my eyes ) is definitely understandable for a reason. Vignette is a Fairy and Philo is not! Now, I can’t wait for the second season!!
