Hello there my adorable little faces. Today, I decided to write about the first book of my number one favorite YA book series. “Bloodlines” series consists of six books and in this post will talk about the first one.
Something that you have to know is that “Bloodlines” is a spin-off book series of the “Vampire Academy” book series ( this series has six books as well ). Most of the characters are people that we met on VA, but you can read Bloodlines without have already read VA if you want because all the important details are mentioned in the first book. The main characters of the “Bloodlines” series are the Alchemist Sydney Sage and the Moroi Adrian Ivashkov, alongside the Dhampir Eddie Castile and the Moroi princess Jill Mastrano, all known from VA.
** Moroi are vampires who are also alive. They have to drink human blood in order to stay alive but they can grow old and die. They are able to walk in the sun without burning them, even if it makes them weak. They are able to use elements with magic, as like water, earth, fire, air, and spirit.
** Strigoi are the undead vampires. They kill their victims for their blood, they can’t walk in the sun, they don’t grow old and they are extremely difficult to kill.
** Dhampirs are the half-human / half-vampire ones. They don’t drink blood and they are able to walk in the sun as every human being. They are extremely strong though and that’s the reason that they are the guardians of the Moroi.
** Alchemists are humans who know about the vampire world and their job is to keep it secret. They believe that not only Strigoi but Moroi and Dhampirs as well are monsters and they hate them all, but most of the time they have to work alongside Moroi and Dhampirs to keep the order.
THIS POST CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS.
When I was reading the “Vampire Academy” book series for the first time I had three favorite characters. Christian Ozera, Sydney Sage, and Adrian Ivashkov. Truth be told, Adrian who made his first appearance on the second book always had a special place in my heart.
He was misunderstood by everyone, people referred to him as the “lost cause” and Rose Hathaway, the girl that he was in love with, treated him really bad. When Sydney made her first appearance in the fifth book, I was so damn sure that she came aboard in order to be Adrian’s other half, but… I was wrong! Actually, the only time that they saw each other was in the last book, where they just looked at each other. I was really sad that my otp never happened… Until the moment that Richelle Mead wrote “Bloodlines” and all my prayers became true.
The story.
After an – almost – deadly attack at the court against Queen’s sister, Moroi and Alchemists decided to hide Jill somewhere that the Moroi who wanted her dead couldn’t find her. The plan is to transfer her to a boarding school in Palm Springs ( somewhere that is difficult to live a vampire ). Eddie goes with her as her guardian alongside with Jill’s good friend ( and maybe more? ) Adrian. Sydney has to go with them, sent there by the Alchemists in order to keep them all in line.
High school is not easy though and Jill will find it out really quickly. When some students start showing unusual powers, Sydney will try to figure out what is going on and she will join forces with someone that she never imagined that she will. Adrian Ivashkov himself. Truth be told, the two of them had a bad start from the beginning… with Adrian being too flirty and unprofessional ( something that Sydney doesn’t approve ) and Sydney being way too professional and cold for Adrian’s likes.
On the other hand, Sydney’s link with the Alchemists ( and her mortal enemy ), Keith Darnell, is doing whatever he can to make their bosses believe that she has lost her way in order to lose her job and possible to send her for reeducation. But problems don’t stop there. Female Moroi start popping up dead in the Los Angeles area and Sydney starts gathering clues in order to find out if that’s a coincidence or not.
It’s truly my favorite YA book series and I’m happy that I decided to re-read it again. I missed my #Sydrian ( Sydney and Adrian ) so much and I only can hope that someday I may be able to see those characters “alive” on my screen in a movie series or a tv one…
