The Deal by Elle Kennedy

Hello hello,

Welcome back to another book review, which in two weeks, will be able to see it taking life on our screens. “Off Campus” is a famous book series on booktok and today will talk about its first book, “The Deal”.

After Hannah’s sexual assault when she was fifteen years old, and all the hard times that she and her family went through, finally she was able to put it all behind her. She managed not to let it define her and the two relationships since then. If you can ignore the fact that she couldn’t enjoy sex.

Something that she was sure her new crush, Justin, would be able to help her with. The only problem with this little plan to date him is that he doesn’t even know that she exists.

Garrett has only one goal as captain of the ice hockey team. To lead his team into victory. He wants to win the college championship. The only problem is that he will not be able to do this if he fails the final exam for one of the most difficult subjects of the semester. He sees Hannah’s perfect A on her paper and he starts trying to make her agree to tutor him.

She seems not to be interested in any payment he offers, though. No money, no status, no sex with him… nothing. Until he finds out she likes Justin and he comes up with the perfect plan. He offers to fake date her in order to make him notice her and she agrees. I mean, it’s a good deal. He will pass the class, and she will get her man. Easy, right? Well, yeah… Until he realises that he doesn’t want anyone else to touch his girl!

My thoughts:

I will not gonna lie, I totally started the series when I saw about the TV adaptation on TIKTOK. Then I took a hiatus from writing and now I reread it, because the first season comes to Prime on May 13th! But even the second time, I felt the same thing as the first one. I loved it!

The story was cliché, but so good. Elle handled Hannah’s rape and Garrett’s trauma because of his abusive father pretty well, in my opinion. But please, if you’re sensitive to any of these topics, read it with caution.

Having Logan ( my favorite boy ), Garrett’s best friend, having a crush on Hannah is too real, but I hope we won’t have any issues in the next books.

P.S Garrett’s dad is an asshole.

The book is a clear 4.8/5 stars for me.

A little thing about the upcoming series:

I’ll leave you below the teaser trailer ( in case you haven’t already watched it ). We can see that some things are different from the book. For example, Hannah is working for the hockey team… and we know that Justin in the series is a musician and not a football player, and I’m really curious about how those things will work… I’m so excited about watching it!
