Grumpy Darling by Alexandra Moody

Hello – hello!!

I’m back with another book review! This time, I will talk to you about the second book of the series “The Darling Devils”. After “Rival Darling“, “Grumpy Darling” is coming to prove that Moody is able to give us another great book.

Paige and Grayson have been friends since they were kids. But time passes really quickly when you’re having a great time with your best friend… And then you’re in the last year of high school and you haven’t even kissed anyone, like ever… That’s what happened to Paige. But she has a plan. She has a list, a bucket list, with things that she wants to try before the end of the school year.

Okay, truth be told… This list was made more as a helping hand in order to find what she really likes to study in college… And a small addition on the bottom wouldn’t hurt anyone. Until Parker, Gray’s little brother, finds the list and sees that last one “to have my first kiss”.

Grayson finds out as well, and Paige asks him to try to stop being so scary because he literally scares away every guy who probably likes her. Gray, trying to be a good friend, agrees to stay calm… Until Demian, Paige’s first crush, returns to town, and she asks Gray to teach her how to flirt, so she can win Demian over.

He agrees on that, but Grayson has his own plan, and he must work fast. He has to make Paige fall in love with him as well, because he will not allow himself to lose the love of his life… just because he was a coward all those years.

My thoughts.

I’m not gonna lie, the friends-to-lovers trope isn’t my favourite, and I usually find it boring. But “Grumpy Darling” was far from boring. The writer manages to not only give us their love story but also their personal struggles.

Paige has workaholic parents who don’t even know what she wants to study, while they’re pressuring her to fill out college applications. Grayson grew up as a hockey player, something that he wants to keep doing as a career. He has a scholarship waiting for him, all while he secretly suffers from a knee injury that threatens his whole future.

I really liked that we saw more than a love story. It was refreshing, cute, full of hope, and sweet moments. I also liked that we got a small peek at Darling siblings’ love for each other. In many stories ( books, tv series, movies etc ) the author puts the siblings to not get along. So it was really nice to read about some sibling love and support.

Now that we’re done with the twins’ ( Reed and Gray ) books, I guess the next story will be about Parker. I’m not gonna lie, I’m really thrilled about that. More because we have no clue about his love interest. ( Well, the plot is out now, so you can check it out if you want, but I’m not gonna tell anything. )

I loved the book and I have to give it a 4.7/5 stars. Good job, Alexandra. You have me hooked.
