My rating: 9.5/10

Yu Xuan is a 27-year-old woman living in 2019. On her birthday, she wishes she could see her late boyfriend, Quan Sheng, who died in an accident two years earlier. Then she finds a mysterious cassette player, and when she listens to the tape, she falls asleep.
But when she wakes up, she discovers she’s now living in 1998, taking over the body of a high school student named Yun Ru.
The craziest part? Yun Ru’s best friend is a boy named Zi Wei, who looks exactly like Quan Sheng.
But things aren’t as simple as they seem. Now trapped in Yun Ru’s body, Yu Xuan has to change the girl’s tragic fate.

Key points:

  • Time travel
  • Unique plot
  • 90s vibes
  • Well-written characters
  • Cliffhangers
  • Suspense

Personal opinion:

Watching this series was insanely nerve-wrecking and mind-blowing. In every episode I was trying to untangle the timelines, understand the characters, and even kept notes to remember everything. I had so many theories that kept changing, but in the end everything concluded beautifully, and all the pieces of the puzzle finally fell into place.
The story is very emotional and the actors have amazing chemistry. I also loved the strong 90s aesthetic and how the production paid attention to every tiny detail. I almost went crazy watching this – but I had the best time of my life!!!

Meet Me @ 1006 (2018)

Cheng Jia Le is a rookie reporter who lives in the same house.
Turns out they live in different timelines and neither of them knows the other exists, until they discover that every night at 10:06 their worlds collide and they share the same space for about an hour.
The plot thickens as they try to solve the mystery behind this phenomenon, only to dive deeper into a complicated situation and a fate that desperately needs to change.

Key points:

  • Different timelines
  • Investigation
  • Unexpected Twists
  • Butterfly effect
  • Time travel
  • Law-related elements

Personal opinion:

There are so many things I love about this series. The plot is full of angst and mystery, balanced with a lot of cuteness. The protagonists have strong personalities and amazing chemistry, and the side characters are also surprisingly important to the story. It’s one of my favorite series to re-watch.

I Am Sorry, I Love You (2015)
Episodes: 13
Genre: Romance, Drama, Fantasy, Supernatural

My rating: 9/10

This is the tragic story of a couple that was forcefully torn apart. Han Si Yi and Ling Hong Pei lived happily in love until one day he died in a horrible accident. Time passes but Han Si Yi can’t move on.
One day, she gives Ling Hong Pei’s broken watch to Wang Shu Hai, a nerdy boy willing to fix it. Little do they know that inside the watch lives the spirit of its dead owner, who is determined to help his girlfriend heal.
Soon, Ling Hong Pei and Wang Shu Hai develop a strong friendship — and maybe that bond is exactly what will change everyone’s destiny and shed light on the truth behind his death, which might not have been an accident after all.

Key points:

  • Ghost
  • Bromance
  • Nerd protagonist
  • Emotional plot
  • Good acting
  • Character development

Personal opinion:

This series was deeply emotional for me. I loved how beautifully the story unfolded. Even though it starts sad, the mystery-solving aspect, the character development, and the touching bond between the protagonists make it a perfect emotional rollercoaster.

Lost Romance (2020)

Zheng Xiao En is a romance novel editor who suddenly finds herself trapped in the world of a romance novel.
Unexpectedly, in this fictional world exists her real-life crush, He Tian Xing – a gorgeous CEO, but with a different personality and even a different name.
Zheng Xiao En believes this is the perfect chance to live her dream and finally capture his heart… until she discovers she’s not the protagonist, but the villain of the story.

Key points:

  • Cross-world travel
  • Change of fate
  • Love triangle
  • Strong female lead
  • Smart screenwriting
  • Comedy

Personal opinion:

I absolutely love this series. The chemistry is top notch, and even though I usually hate love triangles, this one – combined with the character development – was extremely engaging. The characters are well-written, and I especially loved Zheng Xiao En’s strong, independent, and clever personality.
The plot has a lot of comedic moments, and my favorite part is the smart way it satirizes all the classic romance clichés.

Maybe it took a long time, but I finally wrote a second part of my sci-fi recommendations! (You can read my BL version here.)
I really hope you liked it and found something worth watching. I’d love to read your opinions in the comments, and if you want to read more from us, you can like and subscribe.

Thanks for reading,

 Utaku 🌼
