Book Lover by Emily Henry

Hello hello!!

Another day, another book review. ( I have stocked our drafts, so be prepared! ) Today, I will talk about “Book Lovers” by Emily Henry. Truth be told, this book wasn’t on my “to buy” list at all, but when you’re at the airport and you find a book on “take 2, buy 1” shelf… you must take it back home! That’s how this book ended up on my TBR ( to be read ) list.

Let’s see the story:

The story follows Nora, a literary agent – the top in her field – and the book editor Charlie. When the two meet for the first time, she just had a breakup over the phone, she’s late – because public transportation is a nightmare -, and he has to be somewhere but he ends up missing his flight because of her. The feelings about disliking each other are mutual and the fact that Charlie hates the book that Nora represents doesn’t help – at all -!!

One year later, Nora’s sister insists on going on vacation together in Sunshine Falls, the city where the story of the book that Charlie hates so much takes place. At first, Nora doesn’t want to do that… but she never was able to say “no” to her little sister. As this “small town find yourself vacation” wasn’t enough… Libby, her sister, has made a list that they have to follow to “live the whole small-town experience”.

One of Libby’s numbers on the list is for Nora to have a romance with one of the residents of Sunshine Falls. The only problem in this ( except the fact that Nora doesn’t want to do that ) is that instead of Nora meeting sexy small-town guys who are ready to offer her a nice time, she keeps bumping into Charlie.

My thoughts ( and spoilers time):

I wasn’t able to stop reading the damn book! I was obsessed with finding out what would happen next.! Henry did a great job writing this story and its characters. With them being in their early thirties, I was able to relate to this. ( I’m currently 33 years old ).

I adored the fact that Nora wasn’t the heroine that the guy met and decided to leave his whole life behind for her. For years, she was the one who kept being dumped by guys. She grew up only with her mom and Libby, her baby sister, and seeing her mother fall in love with all the wrong men had a huge impact on the way that she tried to build her relationships and her life. She appeared as a cruel and ice-cold person, everyone thinking of her as an Ice Queen with no emotions, but in fact, the only thing that she was trying to do was to protect herself.

Charlie on the other hand grew up in a small town the only thing that he always wanted was to escape from there, and when he has to return to help his family, feels like an animal in a trap. Everyone always believed that he was a heartless man who lived only for his job, with zero social skills and the willingness to try to impress people. No one could imagine how hurt and wanted to be loved he was.

Libby was a little bit annoying for my liking and if I were Nora, no matter how much I loved her, I would have put boundaries in place years back. Married with two kids ( and pregnant ) we all can see that something isn’t right with her life and I loved that it wasn’t an obvious reason ( I’m not gonna tell you everything guys, go read it ). In the end, everything made sense with her and I liked that the sisters finally managed to clear things up.

The fact that the leads were so conscious about their selves, their relationship, and how they had to proceed with their lives gave me all the chills. They took their time, they healed their wounds, they started living for themselves and when they were ready finally found each other again ( ok, I spilled the tea, sue me – please don’t – ).

This is the first book that I read by Emily Henry, so I wasn’t familiar with her writing at all, but let me tell you that I loved it! I plan to buy more books by her and I hope that she will not disappoint me.

It’s a 5/5 stars from me ( can I give it a 5+? ), so let me know what you think in the comments below. Have you already read it, did you like it or not? Was my review convincing enough to read it? Anything you want to tell me.

Until next time…
